Choose what to cover in automated regression checks

Separate API rules, browser workflows, and narrow-screen checks using a workspace invitation example.

Consider a workspace invitation flow. A regression pass should establish whether permission rules hold, whether a user can finish the action, and whether the controls remain usable on a narrow screen. Give each question an observable result and choose the appropriate layer.

Cover rules at the API layer

Prepare administrator and member test identities. Verify that an administrator can create an invitation and that the same request from a member is rejected. Use fixed cases for duplicate invitations and expired links. Record the response and resulting state in an isolated workspace or a fixture that can be cleaned up.

Exercise one browser journey

Use Webapp Testing to organize the path from the members page to a successful invitation. Locate inputs by label and verify both feedback and the invitation list. Wait for observable state changes. Capture the first failing step, a screenshot, and enough fixture information for reproduction.

Check narrow screens before release

Confirm that form fields, focus, and errors stay visible at supported widths. Use a device for behavior involving the native keyboard, system gestures, or device permissions. Record the conditions, failure owner, and last run for each check so the release owner can identify outstanding evidence.
